October Raku Wokshop

Awww it is a sad day ... we have just had the last raku workshop of the year, now we are into autumn the days are just too short. Even though it was lovely and sunny yesterday it was mighty chilly and the sudden windy gusts were rather annoying, sending sawdust and paper flying and billowing the smoke all around us.
It was a great fun workshop with lots of our students bringing lots of their own work to fire, some of it rather challenging  We had two kilns going one of which was given us by lovely sculptor/painter Joyce - it worked a treat and it will allow us to fire larger pieces of work next  season.
After watching videos on youtube I was determined to have a go at using ferric chloride, the first one out of the kiln I really liked, but think I used a bit too much sugar or horse hair in the two others ... it is a learning curve!!! We will definitely do it again but will have to include it in a more advanced raku workshop as there are a few more H&S precautions to take which as you can see from the pictures I took very seriously!

Instead of us all bringing sandwiches I made a spicy seasonal soup for us all to share with lots of lovely bread and cheese just what we needed to warm us all up. Ada had once again come up trumps and made some spectacular cakes.
Thank you Andy and Dario for the fabulous photos and the video below which captures the highlights of the day and a big thank you everyone who made this Raku season such brilliant fun and look forward to seeing some of you again next year.
