New Raku workshop date added!

Saturday 8th August

First Raku of 2020

Well we didn't have the best weather for a raku workshop but as we had the use of our very well ventilated barn we managed to stay as dry as possible only popping outside when we had to load and unload the kilns.
Everyone took the covid safety precautions very seriously and feel confident that we can run a raku workshop in the current climate. Next date will follow soon!!!

One place available

Saturday 25 July 10am - 5pm
We have one space still available for our first raku workshop this year.

We have put as many covid safety procedures in place as possible.

  • We are limiting this class size to 8 people.
  • We ask all participating students to bring their own face coverings which should be worn when in close proximity to each other. You will be asked to try and be at least 1m apart if possible.
  • We will be making a larger glazing area than usual so students can keep a bit of distance from each other.
  • Latex cloves available or please bring your own and we will try and have some kind of hand washing station in the garden too as well as hand sanitiser.
  • You will be allocated your own set of labeled welding gloves to use on the day.
  • There will be no access to the Westbury Art Centre building other than for use of the toilet. We will be outside in the fresh air all day or glazing in the large barn if the weather is not so nice.
  • We ask that if on the day you or any family member is ill, please cancel your booking - in this circumstance your deposit will be refunded.
Cost: £100 one day workshop

Please get in touch if you would like to book.

Raku Workshops 2020

Raku Workshops ... New Dates For 2020

It's that time of year again and time to start thinking about longer, warmer days that means the beginning of the raku season!

New for this year will be a special workshop for those who want to master the technique of Naked Raku to be held on Saturday 25 July. We will spend the whole day looking into this magical technique. If you want to make your own pieces we will give you detailed notes well in advance on the type of clay, burnishing techniques and the shapes to make sure that you can achieve the best results possible. Mark and I will also prepare bisque fired, burnished pots that can be purchased on the day from £6 each.

Also planned for later this year will be a Two Day - Raku Fired Clocks Workshop. Suitable for all levels of ability. The first day you will make slab built clocks and more if time permits, then you can book on any of the raku dates to fire your pieces. The date has yet to be confirmed (we are hoping for July/August) as we are awaiting confirmation of room booking - but expressions of interest can be emailed to us if you think you might like to attend. The cost will be £200 (which includes bisque firing and all materials including the clock mechanisms) both days be held at Westbury Arts Centre and will run from 10am - 5pm.
